Murder investigation underway in coffs harbouring the suspects

The murder investigation is ongoing after a'murderer' stabbed a man near the Newcastle shopping centre at around 5.40pm yesterday afternoon.

A 24-year-old man in his 20s was at the shop in Westfield Shopping Centre when the incident occurred at about 10am.

A 22-year-old man was also at the shop at the time, but was able to get away when the suspect jumped him and stabbed him three times with a knife, according to Newcastle City Councillor Paul Shephard.

Mr Shephard said: "A man is now in hospital in a serious condition with stab wounds in his upper body and abdomen.

"We are obviously treating this as murder.

"It is in connection with a serious incident. This individual is a suspect, we need the public's help to identify him."

An image posted on the Newcastle City Police Facebook page shows the suspect lying with his back against a car in Westfield with an apparently empty bottle.

A police spokesman said today it was too early to comment on any specific details.

Palestinians have taken control of the West Bank's main police station after Israeli bulldozers demolished six roadblocks overnight.


Israel demolished the buildings in the northern village of Nakhleh and the village of Kfar Naif earlier this week at a time when a wave of illegal outposts and wall construction led to frequent attacks by Palestinians armed with rocks, sticks and metal bars.


With the demolition of the buildings, the Israeli military says it has completed repairs to all roads leading to the outpost and added 15 new checkpoints and security posts. However, the number of roadblocks remains at more than two thousand, some of them around the village.


The main police station will be shut down, although soldiers still carry out regular security checks to see if anyone is carrying weapons. But locals said that roadblocks were already being built behind the main entrance to the station and security posts around it.


Israeli authorities said that they had not been able to check whether the roadblocks were actually planned.


In another development Tuesday, the Israeli army said that it dismantled several roadblocks that had been erected in the occupied West Bank earlier this month. The roadblocks had been set up on road blocks in the southern West Bank town of Nablus, which Israel annexed to Israel in the 1967 Six Day War.
